The Author
When I was eleven years old my brother told me he was becoming a vegetarian, I thought he was crazy. He tried to convince me to do the same, but I just couldn’t imagine life with out meat. After a deep reflection, five years later, I began to realize that no one should have the power to take the life of another being. I ventured into vegetarianism and thought I was doing my part, after eleven months I started to read up on veganism. I learned of how eating dairy supports the veal industry, and it became clear that animals are not here for us to eat or exploit. I have been vegan ever since.

My name is Javier Hidalgo and I currently reside in Cypress, TX. It is not the best place for a vegan to live, but it is sustainable. I most definitely see my beliefs on the left side of the spectrum and hope to move to Portland, Oregon after I graduate from college. I have always been compelled to expand my learning, I wake up every morning and check political news. I read and analyze, and usually annoy my friends and family when I try to discuss it at seven in the morning. Sometimes I write poetry, other times I just feel like strangling those who do not see eye to eye with my views. In the end I’ve learned to come to terms that you cannot convince everyone. I’ m majoring in political science in order to teach government to seniors in high school. I hope to inspire others to stand up for what they believe in, what ever that may be.
